Come on, Yan Ke!

JAN MICHAL FURMANEK (Chinese name: Yan Ke) is the first and only one student from Poland. His running picture in Sports Meeting showed in school website, as a result, he was an overnight star in Zhejiang International Studies University. To be honest, he was a little bit upset because he was not good at running at all. Specifically, he did not finish at running for 800 meters.

However, it was not the first time that he felt upset.

In November, he arrived at our campus for studying Chinese. Before that, he had browsed many websites and found our Admissions Information for International Students. Even if he had contacted us for several times, he still could not stop worrying about the language barrier, because he was a Chinese beginner, only saying“你好”“谢谢”, until he got the warm welcome as he arrived in ZISU.

Yan Ke loves learning Chinese. He enjoyed learning new Chinese characters with combinations of radicals or phonetic notes. Also, he really appreciated the opportunity to learn more about China by vocabulary, grammar and other culture classes. In his opinion, the One-to-One Chinese was the most attracting class because he not only made friends with Chinese student, but also got more chance to practice and improved his Chinese. As a reward of hard-studying, he got the scholarship offered by Zhejiang Province.

Before coming to China, he worried that language problem would get him away from daily life in China. Maybe he would stuffer seriously homesick. Meanwhile, his family worried whether he could make friends with Chinese and get used to different lifestyle. Nowadays, the real situations proved that they worried too much. Yan Ke got along well with Kazakhstan roommates, Chinese students and other international classmates.

For experiencing more Chinese culture and getting accustomed to university life, he signed applications forms for upcoming Culture Exchange Programs between Chinese and International students. He said that studying Chinese in Zhejiang International Studies University made him feel at home. And he would treasure this opportunity to do better. He promised to join in the 800-meter running again next year. If possible, he would try 1500 meters.

Therefore, if you meet Yan Ke in our campus, please tell him “Come on,Yan Ke!”
